Packing smart can make all the difference! To help you feel organized and comfortable, we've put together this Israel packing guide. With these tips, you can travel stress-free and focus on what matters most: enjoying every moment of your journey.

Packing for Summer in Israel (May – September)

Summertime in Israel means long days filled with sun and heat. Temperatures often soar into the 90s°F (mid-to-upper 30s°C), especially in the Negev Desert and near the Dead Sea. Coastal cities like Tel Aviv can be humid, while Jerusalem tends to be a bit drier.

Summer Essentials

  • Dress in layers - that can be easily added/ removed as needed.

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing – Choose cotton or other light fabrics to stay cool. Loose-fitting pants, skirts, shorts, and t-shirts will keep you cool and comfortable.

  • Swimwear – You will have the opportunity to swim during the trip so bring a swimwear.  You should also bring water-sandals/shoes so that you do not go into the water barefoot.

  • Comfortable walking shoes and sandals – Israel is best explored on foot! Sneakers for touring, sandals for relaxing.

  • Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen – The Israeli sun is strong—good protection is essential.

  • Light jacket or shawl – Evenings in certain areas, particularly Jerusalem, can be cool. In addition, many indoor locations are air-conditioned. A light outer layer is advised.

General packing suggestions and tips

  • Outfit for Shabbat – In Jerusalem, you might want to dress up a little more for Shabbat meals or services (a nice dress, skirt, or pants with a button-down shirt).

  • Modest attire for religious sites – When visiting sites (such as the Western Wall) modest dress is required for both men & women (no exposed shoulders, low neck-lines or shorts).

  • Jewelry & other valuable items - we would suggest that you bring as little as possible, so that nothing gets lost or misplaced or left in the hotel by mistake.

  • Prescription medication - Please bring along with you in your hand luggage. You should also bring over-the-counter medication that you think you may require for headaches, stomach-related issues etc.

  • Glasses or contact lenses - If you require, please bring along an extra pair along with you.

  • Stay hydrated – Israel Maven will provide bottles of water on the bus. However, if you wish to be mindful of the environment, you should bring along a water bottle that can be refilled.

Electronics and Travel Apps

  • Phone charger and travel adapter – Israel uses Type H plugs. If you have a three-pronged device, you will need an adapter. Israel Maven will provide you with a two-pronged adaptor so that you can recharge your mobile phones using an Israeli outlet. If you have multiple devices then it is a good idea to bring a US power strip.

  • Hair Dryer- 4-5 star hotels hotels have, so no need to bring. If you are bringing in electric devices, please remember that Israel operates on a 220v system whereas the US operates on a 110v system so you need to bring a converter.

  • Portable power bank – Great for long days out touring.

  • Download WhatsApp – WhatsApp is widely used for communication

  • Download Gett Taxi app - A reliable taxi app you can order a cab and pay through your phone.

  • Air-Tags or luggage trackers – We suggest that you put an Air-tag in your luggage so that you can easily track & locate if needed.

  • Camera or smartphone – To capture the memories you’ll treasure.

Money & Travel Documents

  • Passport – Keep it secure and accessible.

  • Credit/Debit Card – Most stores in Israel accept US credit cards & you can use your card to withdraw money from an ATM. You should check, however, that your card is cleared for use outside of the US.

  • Cash (Israeli Shekels) – Always good to have small amounts for markets or taxis. We suggest changing around $50-$100 US into Shekels before you arrive in Israel.

  • Travel insurance – It is highly recommended to purchase travel insurance that covers trip interruption/ cancellation as well as health insurance should you require any medical attention in Israel.

We’re excited to see you soon!

Safe travels!
