Packing Guide & Tips to Help You Prepare for Your Israel Trip

Packing smart can make all the difference! To help you feel organized and comfortable, we've put together this Israel packing guide. With these tips, you can travel stress-free and focus on what matters most: enjoying every moment of your journey.


Packing for Summer in Israel (May – September)


Summertime in Israel means long days filled with sun and heat. Temperatures often soar into the 90s°F (mid-to-upper 30s°C), especially in the Negev Desert and near the Dead Sea. Coastal cities like Tel Aviv can be humid, while Jerusalem tends to be a bit drier.


Summer Essentials


  • Dress in layers - that can be easily added/ removed as needed.

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing – Choose cotton or other light fabrics to stay cool. Loose-fitting pants, skirts, shorts, and t-shirts will keep you cool and comfortable.

  • Swimwear – You will have the opportunity to swim during the trip so bring a swimwear.  You should also bring water-sandals/shoes so that you do not go into the water barefoot.

  • Comfortable walking shoes and sandals – Israel is best explored on foot! Sneakers for touring, sandals for relaxing.

  • Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen – The Israeli sun is strong—good protection is essential.

  • Light jacket or shawl – Evenings in certain areas, particularly Jerusalem, can be cool. In addition, many indoor locations are air-conditioned. A light outer layer is advised.



General packing suggestions and tips

  • Outfit for Shabbat – In Jerusalem, you might want to dress up a little more for Shabbat meals or services (a nice dress, skirt, or pants with a button-down shirt).

  • Modest attire for religious sites – When visiting sites (such as the Western Wall) modest dress is required for both men & women (no exposed shoulders, low neck-lines or shorts).

  • Jewelry & other valuable items - we would suggest that you bring as little as possible, so that nothing gets lost or misplaced or left in the hotel by mistake.

  • Prescription medication - Please bring along with you in your hand luggage. You should also bring over-the-counter medication that you think you may require for headaches, stomach-related issues etc.

  • Glasses or contact lenses - If you require, please bring along an extra pair along with you.

  • Stay hydrated – Israel Maven will provide bottles of water on the bus. However, if you wish to be mindful of the environment, you should bring along a water bottle that can be refilled.



Electronics and Travel Apps

  • Phone charger and travel adapter – Israel uses Type H plugs. If you have a three-pronged device, you will need an adapter. Israel Maven will provide you with a two-pronged adaptor so that you can recharge your mobile phones using an Israeli outlet. If you have multiple devices then it is a good idea to bring a US power strip.

  • Hair Dryer- 4-5 star hotels hotels have, so no need to bring. If you are bringing in electric devices, please remember that Israel operates on a 220v system whereas the US operates on a 110v system so you need to bring a converter.

  • Portable power bank – Great for long days out touring.

  • Download WhatsApp – WhatsApp is widely used for communication

  • Download Gett Taxi app - A reliable taxi app you can order a cab and pay through your phone.

  • Air-Tags or luggage trackers – We suggest that you put an Air-tag in your luggage so that you can easily track & locate if needed.

  • Camera or smartphone – To capture the memories you’ll treasure.


Money & Travel Documents

  • Passport – Keep it secure and accessible.

  • Credit/Debit Card – Most stores in Israel accept US credit cards & you can use your card to withdraw money from an ATM. You should check, however, that your card is cleared for use outside of the US.

  • Cash (Israeli Shekels) – Always good to have small amounts for markets or taxis. We suggest changing around $50-$100 US into Shekels before you arrive in Israel.

  • Travel insurance – It is highly recommended to purchase travel insurance that covers trip interruption/ cancellation as well as health insurance should you require any medical attention in Israel.
